The fourth graders at Nannie Berry Elementary work collaboratively and individually to grow and master new and exciting skills, ultimately preparing them to be lifelong learners. Students learn and practice critical thinking and problem solving skills across the curriculum. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively with peers helps students gain self confidence and responsibility. Through close reading of various texts, students become more effective readers and writers. Using a problem solving approach to tackle math tasks teaches students to persevere through challenges, and allows them the opportunity to construct their own learning. Fourth grade provides the first opportunity for students to dive into American History. Students deepen their understanding of various scientific concepts through exploration and reading of nonfiction texts.
