From Principal to Parent

A Successful Parent - Teacher Conference

The Sumner County Board of Education set a countywide date of October 20th  for parent conferences.  STUDENTS WILL NOT ATTEND SCHOOL ON THIS DAY.

A parent-teacher conference is one of the many steps Nannie Berry is taking to work with you to build your child's educational program. Report cards, notes, phone calls, etc., have their advantages, but the parent-teacher conference has one thing more.  It is a chance for us to get together with you in person to discuss your child's education.  The conference will give you a chance to ask questions, give teachers information that will help them understand your child's needs, and work with us in planning your child's school year.

Here's what you can do to get ready for the conference:

Make a list of things that will help the teacher understand your child better.

For example:

v     Any special health needs or problems

v     Feelings about school

v     Study habits at home

v     Outside hobbies and interests

v     TV habits

Make a list of things you want to find out from the teacher.

For example you may wish to know about:

v     Current level in reading or math

v     Ability to do school work

v     Grading policy

v     Homework policy

v     Peer relationships

v     Behavior in or out of class

HELPFUL HINTS …

  1. It's especially helpful if both parents can attend the conference.
  2. Be on time - try to follow the schedule that has been set up.
  3. If you feel you need more time, ask about setting up an additional conference.

WE'RE WORKING HARD TO MAKE YOUR CONFERENCE A SPECIAL ONE.

Teachers will schedule all necessary conferences.

We are looking forward to seeing you.
