Introduction

You have been given the chance to work with an Entomologist (this is a scientist who studies insects). Your job while working with him is to oversee the care of his Monarch butterflies. Before you start your job you need to learn about Monarchs. What do they eat? How are they born? How long does it take to become an adult? What area of the country do they live in? All these questions can be answered in this webquest.

The Task

Using the website links in this webquest and/or books you can find information to help you with your future job. You can create your own butterfly and show its life cycle. After your research you may also create one of the following: a poem, acrostic or your own butterfly with story to share with the class.

The Process

To prepare you for your new job you will need to do some research and have some fun!

1.    Get some paper so you can write down information you might want to remember.

2.    Remember when writing your information to practice using good chocolate (complete) sentences.

3.    Next you can draw and label a picture showing the life cycle of a Monarch butterfly.

4.      Once you have all the basic information it’s time for some fun! Look through some of the other websites listed and find some fun facts about Monarchs and butterflies.

5.      Be creative: create a poem, a story or an original picture to share.
